Infection Control
Infection Control requires the ability to
track where infected patients had been in the healthcare organization. By
keeping a "Tracking Record" that is updated each time that the patient is
transfer in the healthcare organization,
The Infection rate for each department can
be compared with the norm. Other patients that were in the same unit can be
compared for similar lab results and which other patients, visitors, or family
members might have been exposed.
Symptoms can be monitored along with lab
results. By monitoring symptoms, infections can be detected sooner than waiting
for lab results to be returned.
- Indicates if the infection was acquired before or after
admission
- Provides the able to detect and isolate infected patients
quickly.
- Readmitted patients can be isolated immediately based on
their previous exposure.
- Results are reported by type of infection
- At risk patients can be identified "before" they have an
infection
Hygiene Code. Improved through better on-line
education, keeping track of the in-house education, keeping trace of the type of
infection and who was involved with the patient/staff/location that was the
source of the infection.
Invasive Devices
Patients who have invasive devices can be checked more closely
for any symptoms that may indicate an infection. These reports can immediately
be reviewed and Alerts issued automatically.
The time that invasive devices were inserted can be closely
monitored for any device that has been placed longer that a certain standardized
time.
Ability to compare all positive cultures with grouping of
variables. The data can indicate wither the infection is associated with:
- Date of Admission
- Onset of Infection
- client's profile
- client's previous vaccinations
- client's possible external exposures
- Healthcare Professional (all who has come in contact with
the patient)
- Unit
- type of procedure
- type of product (the actual device where the infection is
associated)
- time of visit
- locations of the patient
- medication received
- Previous health conditions (susceptibility)
Antibiotic Effectiveness
Once the infection is identified efforts need to be able to
control it.
- Effects of antibiotic treatment on the infections can be
monitored.
Reporting
- Statistical history automatic (charting)
- Patients isolation status updated immediately and alerts
issued.
- Government Reports are complete and filed automatically.
- The reporting of lapsed time since maintenance serves as
a "Reminder" to the healthcare team.
- Data results are made available to the laboratory
personnel to verify the results and at risk patients.
- Alerts can be given to the healthcare team of patients
that are at risk.
- Antibiotic usage by clinical unit, healthcare
professional, infection type, outcome
- Protocols for "high risk" procedures
- Reportable diseases are reported automatically
Prevention
- Redirects efforts to prevention
- Creates an awareness of causes of infections
- Improves responses to infections
- Creates a data mining solution for at risk patients
- Policies & Enforcement
