Introduction

Healthcare is an effort that requires labor intensive highly skilled work processes. Many Questions need to be answered. Business Intelligence can help answer these questions.

Requirements

In order to determine the types and number of these workers required we need to know:

  • What is the healthcare needs of the population? What types of Healthcare Professionals are needed and in what quantities? what should their skills be and how do we best train them for these skills?
  • What resources do we need by hour of the day, day of the week, and season of the year? Where do we place these resources for the most efficient and effective use?
  • How many new health professionals graduating from school this year? Where and in what fields are they interested in working? Is this number declining or increasing? Are their skill levels increasing or declining?
  • How can we attract the type of individuals we need to work in our organization? What types and amounts of compensation do we need to offer them? Are they more interested in cash salaries or benefits?
  • How do you predict when an employee is about to leave?

 With predictive modeling we can:

  • Estimate the resources that each individual will require over time. i.e. will this individual get diabetics, when, and what resources will it taken to care for him?
  • How intensive will the care have to be?
  • Does the frequency of certain types of diseases increase during certain times of year?
  • What time and day of the week are accidents most likely to occur? What types of accidents are most likely.

Organization

Once we have the correct number and type, how do we keep them?

  • How is our organization viewed from the perspective of new graduates, our vendors, our own employees, and other providers?  What can we do to make our organization more attractive to these same individuals?
  • What is the staff saying? Is there a way for them to make suggestions and is anyone listening?
  • Do the employees feel safe in their environment?
  • Do the employees feel secure in their jobs?
  • Do the employees feel that they are part of a "social community" or do they feel like they are always having to fight with management to get something they feel they need?
  • How do give recognition to the employee for a job well done

Appraisals

Staff performance and operating efficiencies. It is not enough to employ individuals, we also need to know how they are doing? Do we have indicators and goals that the employee can work toward? What indicators and goals best motive that individual employee the best? Is the employee a risk taker or do they require more security?

External influences

And what are other Providers doing?

  • What are other providers likely to do? Are they expanding their services and what type of services are they implementing?
