Introduction

Healthcare Intelligences is one of our favor topics and we consider it the most important It is covered under a number of topics on this web site.

Data Analysis and Data Mining IS THE REASON FOR A HEALTH MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM. Communication can just as easy be performed with a fax or telephone!

Currently, the medical profession tries to justify a HMIS system by being able to duplicate what they are already are doing or rather should be doing. Safety is a big buzz word...but if the healthcare professionals were doing what they were suppose to do, then they would not need to rely on a computer to catch their mistakes.

The only way that an IT system can justify its cost, is not by duplicating, but rather by creating new process and procedures. The system will not be able to justify its cost by being able to "collaborate"...you can pick up the phone to be able to do that...it is only when the data that is collected is analyzed can the IT system provide the "cost-benefit"

Healthcare organizations also do not have "silos" of data that can be used. Much of the data that is available is financial data not healthcare data. An example, is that while diagnosis is recorded (an estimate is that 60 percent of these are wrong)...there is no collect of the symptoms of the patient.

However, applying Business Intelligence is an organization can prevent politics from getting in the way, It can proved that one procedure is better than another, and it can prove a healthcare professional is not very professional!

While "Quality" is a big issue in health care...Quality may not be cost justified (very little evidence one way or the other). The push for higher and higher quality is driving up health care costs. There are very few reports that analysis when enough quality is enough...or if the "high quality" is worth the "cost"

Requirements

In order to analysis data (and especially mine data) the data must be available and in the right structured format. This data is NOT currently available and what is available in not structured in the best format.
