Introduction
There are many classification systems used in health care and
a shared healthcare information system must allow use of any one or all of these
systems. In addition, there are many more organizations working on standards as
specialist groups develop.
Information systems must be able to link terms together meaningfully and the
structure of the system must not become so rigid as to prohibit its change. It
is just as important to be able to delete a data type as it is to be able to add
new structures.
