  • Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is the lead Federal agency charged with improving the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of health care for all Americans. As one of 12 agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services, AHRQ supports health services research that will improve the quality of health care and promote evidence-based decision making
  • American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)

  • American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS)
  • American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) Members of AACE are physicians with special education, training, and interest in the practice of clinical endocrinology.  These physicians devote a significant part of their career to the evaluation and management of patients with endocrine disease.  All members of AACE are physicians (M.D. or D.O.) and a majority is certified by Boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.  Members of AACE are recognized clinicians, educators and scientists, many of whom are affiliated with medical schools and universities.  Members of AACE contribute on a regular and continuing basis to the scientific literature on endocrine diseases and conduct medical education programs on this subject

  • Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology APIC’s mission is to improve health and patient safety by reducing risks of infection and other adverse outcomes.  The Association’s more than 11,000 members have primary responsibility for infection prevention, control and hospital epidemiology in health care settings around the globe, and include nurses, epidemiologists, physicians, microbiologists, clinical pathologists, laboratory technologists and public health practitioners .  APIC advances its mission through education, research, collaboration, public policy, practice guidance and credentialing.

  • Joint Commission  (JCAHO) The Joint Commission is the premier health care accreditation organization in the U.S. Information about their accreditation process can be found here.
  • Joint Commission (ORYX) Introduced in February 1997, The Joint Commission’s ORYX initiative integrates outcomes and other performance measurement data into the accreditation process. ORYX measurement requirements are intended to support Joint Commission accredited organizations in their quality improvement efforts. A component of the ORYX initiative is the identification and use of standardized—or “core”—performance measures. The Joint Commission’s principal intent is to identify, rather than develop, sound measures that support both the objectives of the ORYX initiative and organizational process improvement. On July 1, 2002, accredited hospitals began collecting data on core performance measures.

  • National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) NAHQ empowers healthcare quality professionals from every specialty by providing vital research, education, networking, certification and professional practice resources, and a strong voice for healthcare quality
  • National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). The National Committee for Quality Assurance is a private, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. Since its founding in 1990, NCQA has been a central figure in driving improvement throughout the health care system, helping to elevate the issue of health care quality to the top of the national agenda. Annual reports on the state of managed care and individual health plan report cards are important information resources for hospital trustees, and can be found on this well-respected site.
  • National Committee for Quality Assurance - Measuring Quality
  • National Committee for Quality Assurance and Washington Circle There is a clear need to promote quality and accountability in the delivery and management of alcohol and other drug (AOD) services by organized systems of care, both public and private.  The WC believes that this is best accomplished through adopting a process of care model and defining a set of measures for each domain within that model.  Moreover, the WC believes that accountability for AOD services is best achieved when system performance is compared across all domains of the process of care.  The WC is committed to developing evidence-based measures that allow for such comparison
  • National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) The National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI®) is a proprietary database of the American Nurses Association. The database collects and evaluates unit-specific nurse-sensitive data from hospitals in the United States
  • National Diabetes Quality Improvement Alliance (Allliance)
  • National  Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC). A public resource for evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. NGC is an initiative of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. NGC was originally created by AHRQ in partnership with the American Medical Association and the American Association of Health Plans (now America's Health Insurance Plans [AHIP]).

  • National Quality Forum - The National Quality Forum (NQF) is a not-for-profit membership organization created to develop and implement a national strategy for health care quality measurement and reporting. This site includes quality-related articles and resources, as well as information about NQF’s efforts to promote a common approach to measuring health care quality and fostering system-wide capacity for quality improvement.
  • National Initiative for Children’s Healthcare Quality (NICHQ) The National Initiative for Children's Healthcare Quality (NICHQ) is an action-oriented organization dedicated solely to improving the quality of health care provided to children. Founded in 1999, NICHQ's mission is to eliminate the gap between what is and what can be in health care for all children. A national organization with its home office in Cambridge, NICHQ also works with staff and faculty across the country.

Laboratory

  • CMS. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulates all laboratory testing (except research) performed on humans in the U.S. through the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). In total, CLIA covers approximately 200,000 laboratory entities. The Division of Laboratory Services, within the Survey and Certification Group, under the Center for Medicaid and State Operations (CMSO) has the responsibility for implementing the CLIA Program
