Introduction

Security is a very important issue in health care and as such it has been discussed in detail in the Section on Security

This page will present problems directly related to the environment in which this system is expected to work.

Security of the database spans over several levels,

  • Securing the Microsoft "Local user" System or the transactional processing
  • Securing the Networking
  • Securing the SQL Server data warehouse database
  • Securing the OLAP and Data Mining applications

Categories of Security issues are discussed under separate Sections

Local Transactional System

Privacy

Client's Privacy

The Client's right to privacy has been defined in several countries and it will probably be implemented by many other countries.

An individual's desire to limit the disclosure of personal information (National Research Council, 1997)

Security in the InHCc HMIS System addresses the sensitivity and privacy of the client's Information by only allowing property authenticated individuals to have a right to access it. The InHCc HMIS System provides for the following:

  • Logging of every transaction (Time, individual, Department, Client, Record Type)

Confidentially

A condition in which information is shared or released in a controlled manner (National Research Council, 1997)

Competition

We do not generally see this as a security issue in Public Health but rather in business. However, InHCc believes that this is a very big problem that needs to be dealt with, most partially at the National level of reporting.
