Introduction

Data Cleansing

Cleansing data involves checking data integrity, removing unnecessary fields, and adding summary fields.

Transfer of data

Data will be transferred from location to location within the system in order to make the data available to different types of users. During each of these transfers the data will be transformed into a form that is most appropriate for its use at the new location.

There are several data transfers in the InHCc system.

  • From the Clinical system to the Data Cleaning area.
  • From the Data Cleaning area to the Centralized Database Depository
  • From the Centralized Database Depository to the Centralized Data Warehouse
  • From the Data Warehouse to the OLAP Server
  • From the Data Warehouse to the Web Server
  • From the Data Warehouse to the Data Mining server
  • Backups

    (see network diagram)

Transfer Methods

Information will be transferred using to separate systems.

  • Replication
  • Data Transformation Services

Data Replication

In the initial transfer of data from the clinical organization to the data cleaning area, the data will be replicated using Microsoft Replication Services.

Data Transformation Services (DTS)

The InHCc system will use Microsoft's Data Transformation Services (DTS) to transfer all Data from one location to the other except the initial upload to the Data Cleaning area.

Timing of Data Transfers

In most cases, a health care clinic does not have the luxury of having a full time connection to the Internet and must do with a phone-up connect.

This need to use phone-up connections may prevent one health care clinic from having the latest client data when that client comes into that particular clinic.

In order to have the latest information, at the time of uploading information to the Central Data Warehouse (CDW) new information will be downloaded. This process will occur using the following procedure:

  1. The clinic will sent to the CDW a list of each client that it has and the latest version of the Client's Master Record.
  2. The CDW will check its Client Record and Version Number, if the numbers are different.
  3. The CDW will download the new information to the clinic. An example is if the CDW has a version number of 20 and the clinic only has a version number of 15, the CDW will download all the changes from version 16 to 20.

Mapping of local data to the Central Database

Special tables at each organization unit "LOCAL_table" will contain information that is only important for that local. This information will be kept separately and will be used only by the local unit.
