Introduction

Data Analysis is the major reason for collecting of data. Instead of this Web making lists, we will give concrete examples of how data analysis may be used. Many of these examples come from the real world of Family Planning.

Data analysis has two functions

  • Management

  • Research

Although WHO recommends the groupings below, it does nothing for either Management or Research:

  • Analysis by the International Classification of Diseases

  • Age classification for general purposes

  • Classification by areas

    • By Major civil division

    • By Population

Management and Decision Support

  • Cost Analysis

  • What type of contraceptives is demanded in the local setting?

  • Which units are performing best and which units are performing the worst and why?

Research

Research data is collected to determine

  • Target Groups

  • New relationship among variables

  • Projected long term impact of the program

Research requires a large quantity of detail data. In the past this has not been possible. The only previous methods of data collection for research has been a "study" that was generally been limited either by time, money or both.

Concerns

  • Management "making up" data has always remain a cause for concern, particularly when all future analyzes is based on this integrated data. This is particularly a problem when the management's remunerations and benefits are based on his performance.
